Food Co-ops For the Future
The Ottawa Valley Food Co-op was the first of it’s kind in Canada. Borrowing ideas from the Oklahoma Foods Co-op, members pay a fee and can choose from a variety of food products listed by local producers online. Every month they can make an order. They pick up the products grown, raised or made close to home. The money they spend stays in the local economy and supports farmers directly. The Co-op has helped start up a few more in Canada under the same model. It brings communities closer together and stronger- essential for the future of food.
