Sandwich loaves are such a versatile bread- a lot Sandwich loaves are such a versatile bread- a lot of people love the crusty white sourdough that comes out of a dutch oven, but I know that a lot of people love softer bread and a shape that will fit nicely in their toaster! Another bonus with baking bread in a loaf pan is that even though gluten development is still important, we can play around with different wholegrain and heritage blends that might not stand up as well. The loaf pan holds up any dough and I would say almost 99% of the time yields a great loaf no matter the level of protein and gluten in a flour! That is why I am offering a workshop just for this on Sunday November 24th teaching you how to make this exact loaf that also allows you to go home and swap ingredients to your taste and liking. Sourdough Bread, say what?! I know, I know it's b Sourdough Bread, say what?! I know, I know it's been awhile since you've seen this on my feed 😅 🍞😋 As we move towards fall, I always find folks are getting more stoked to learn how to bake sourdough bread! This last week I was certainly happy to stay inside and turn the oven and stove on to bake (albeit it was muffins) and preserve (tomato sauce and grape jelly-yum!). I've got two workshops coming up late fall that I thought you might be interested in! September's workshop filled up so quickly I didn't even have time to make a post after sending to my email list! My classic Sourdough Simplified workshop is on Sunday October 27th and my newer Wholegrain or Blended Sourdough Sandwich Loaf workshop is on Sunday November 24th. Both are full length workshops, small groups, intimate, hands on instruction in my home with lunch, tea and coffee included. I have come to the conclusion that I love to teach smaller groups 6-8 people MAX. You get the most from me and take home a better teaching experience to help you get started on your own! Human Design has taught me so much over the past f Human Design has taught me so much over the past few years. It has opened world's inside of myself that I couldn't touch or find before. Things I have resisted my whole life that kept repeating themselves through my chart: Trust Surrender Love Divine timing Wait It all felt so hard. It's easier to: Push Strive Try so hard Make it happen Get stuff done now I still do these things. But earlier this month I was in a spin of feeling like I was going in circles. I was scared of how to live my life with my son home again for summer and wanting to move forward with my new business. But I'd been here before and I didn't want it to be like that again. Stressing and pushing that just made me feel like a bad Mom who was resentful of not having the time to work but then getting nothing done really when I did have the time. It was the exact opposite of what HD has shown me. So after a few emotional days at the end of June I let go. Being in this online world can make you feel like you cannot stop and take a pause. But if there is trust that God will always have your back. That you are supported no matter what, then why not if that's what you need? And you know what. I feel better. I didn't pressure myself to be here building my business because I know that when I step back in everything is still here. The work I put in didn't disappear overnight. And I'm enjoying my time with my son and the time I have without him. Soaking up the summer while it lasts. My creativity is starting to flow (and no it's not going to be all channeled into IG reels), I had someone reach back out to me about the frequency device I use without even posting about it in weeks, and my HD teacher reached out to me with an amazing offer that I would not have even dreamed of happening. And a bread workshop I announced only to my email list last week is almost full. I still have a lot to learn about surrender and receiving, but damn it feels good to have this embodiment manifest itself. I don't have any offerings for now, but don't be fooled by the quietness on my account. I am so excited to announce something completely n I am so excited to announce something completely new! In early September I am hosting Emily Adam to run a singing workshop. I grew up in a musical family and played multiple instruments growing up. But singing has been with me throughout my life and I wish to bring it back with a little more intention. What better way to do that than host a workshop?! Emily has so much experience singing in groups, teaching and leading others in song and continues to develop her skills to be able to offer an amazing time to anyone who joins. A strong reminder to anyone who might feel shy about singing in a group - there are no requirements to be "good" at singing. This will be an encouraging and inclusive workshop. Don't let a teacher or parents' comment from your past hold you back. Singing together with others is incredibly fun and healing. I never expected to hold a 3 month old calf heart I never expected to hold a 3 month old calf heart in my hand. I've held hearts before, but not this young or tender. On Saturday I was in a beautiful watercolour paint workshop, swimming in the river and loving summer life. Sunday morning we noticed a calf had torn her leg and tendon and the hoof was hanging, she was unable to flex it. Leg injuries in cattle are not easy to handle. We considered all our options and decided to take her out of her pain and future infection and misery. The accident that happened with the electric fence was perhaps avoidable but at the same time we could not have foreseen it happening. And so we learn another lesson about our set up and will do better in the future. Farming is beautiful, satisfying, soul work and it is also painful, brutal and cruel. Every time something like this happens I wonder why I keep on farming. And every time I know that these painful lessons transform me into a better person and help me take more and more responsibility for myself and the animals I raise. It is almost impossible to bypass responsibility while farming. Especially when you're an emotional and sensitive person who feels the animal's pain as your own. I've been crying the past three days for the calf and now the mother who is still mooing for her baby and feeling the pressure in her udder. And I am grateful that we have the skills to turn this unfortunate event into food for us and our dogs. We wasted almost nothing and will gift the hide to our friend who turns hides into beautiful leather pieces using all natural processes. We honoured her short life the best way we could. I'm not sure what my message is to you whoever is reading this. But I know for sure that this side of farming is not shared as readily on social media as much as it actually happens. The happy go lucky, fad homesteading posts drive me insane. But that's just me. I feel deeply, think deeply and don't always share that with the outside world. But this time I thought I would. There might not be blood on your hands like there was on mine, but there is blood somewhere on someone's hands in the process of raising, making and growing your food. Think about it. Cont'd👇
I needed a break from my phone, from the regular r I needed a break from my phone, from the regular routine of life. Luckily there was no service at our campsite last week! It was glorious not to be checking it. I literally turned it off most of the time and only took a couple dozen photos 🙌 Disconnecting from the online world is a salve for the soul - it brings me back to myself. If you're in online business like I am there is so much pressure to be "on" all the time, to be "consistent" and this platform definitely awards these behaviours. But, I see so many people burning out, showing only the best side of their lives, being consistent for awhile and then falling off (hello, me, I've done this). I'm in it right now.  If Human Design has taught me anything is that every single person is unique and our energy works in so many different ways. There is no one way and staying true to yourself is so important. And even though I want to hide away on my farm and shut the phone off completely, I'm back and the reason for this is: 1. I have so many online friends now that I miss and 2. I can't afford to stay offline unless I go get a job, in a system I don't want to be in. Being online here as I build my businesses gives me flexibility and freedom that I wouldn't have otherwise.  I have more to say, but this is probably too long already so if you're still reading, thank you. We're going away for three nights of camping start We're going away for three nights of camping starting tomorrow. This weekend has been full of preparation, and not just the usual kind like packing food and camping gear. We moved the cattle onto a chunk of fresh pasture that will last them for the whole time we are gone. Fences are double checked and they are happily munching the beautiful grass, clovers and wild flowers . Usually we move them once or even twice a day, but while we're gone they will stay here. We got all the necessary weeding and mowing done and luckily we have a farmsitter who has been coming here for a number of years now that sets my mind at ease (mostly 🫠). Leaving the farm is a chore in and of itself, but so worth the effort to take some time to unplug from work, farm and devices. #smallfarmvacation #regenerativefarming #grassfarm #grassfedbeef #campingprep #summervacation
Finding medicine in the everyday right now. Surren Finding medicine in the everyday right now. Surrendering to flow and what is there all the time. Spending time where I need it most. Accepting the wind even when I don't like it that much. Turning it into a lesson. What will I find there? Not sure yet, but the more I turn my attention, the more the small things like the wind transform my perception and make me whole. Today was magical. I connected with a woman today who speaks Gaelic and knows quite a bit about my Scottish ancestry. Planning new things about singing, traditional songs, Gaelic. Who knows where this will take me, but I'm ready, quiet and listening. The wind travels the whole world over and washes over us bringing back the old, and introducing it as new. So grateful for the lessons and connections today, brought about by a trail of threads woven together from whispers of intuition I have finally begun to listen to. 💚🌀💫🔥🍃💨
