With the past week being sunny and hot I was able to get the garden going! So far squash, beans, carrots, cucumbers and beets are all seeded and tomatoes, leeks and peppers are transplanted. I’m planting a winter storage and preserve garden this year. I hope to ferment, jar, pickle, freeze, and store veggies so I can minimize buying foreign produce.
All the cultivation and row marking was done by tractor but I seeded everything by hand. It’s amazing how much time it takes to do this by hand. I feel lucky that I have the time-or should I say have made the time. Taking time to grow your own food should be part of every person’s life. Unfortunately most of us have to have jobs that give us the money to buy the food we eat. If anyone is looking for a new hobby though I suggest ripping out your lawn and growing a garden.
